Preparing for the Hospital- What to Do at Home (MUMH)

In addition to packing what you will bring with you, there are some other things you’ll need to do while you’re at home.

We’re going to ask you not to eat anything after midnight the day before your procedure and not to drink anything after 5 a.m. the day of your procedure, unless your doctor or a nurse has told you differently.

Another very important thing is to make sure you have someone to drive you home from the hospital and stay with you after your procedure. If no one is there to drive you, home you will have to stay at the hospital overnight.

We also want you to bring a list of your allergies, specifically, any food or drug allergies, or if you know you are allergic to IV contrast dye or iodine.

In the next couple of days, while you are waiting for your procedure, if you develop any cold or fever, or really any symptoms, we want you to call and tell your doctor. This is important for your safety. If you have a cold or fever, we may have to send you home, so we would like to know about those things ahead of time.
