How Long Will I Be in the Hospital?

After having cardiac surgery, most people stay in the hospital for about three to five days. Remember, your body went through a lot with the surgery, so it can take a little while to heal.

Before sending you home, your care team will make sure your body is healing the way it’s supposed to. If your care team sees that something is slowing down your recovery, they may want you to stay in the hospital a little while longer to take care of it.

As you recover, your care team will talk with you about your progress, and they’ll let you know when they think you’re ready to go home.

As we said, most people are able to leave the hospital in three to five days, but our top priority is helping you get well, and sometimes that means extending your stay.
