Walking Plan

When you get home after your surgery, it’s important to have a combination of rest and light physical activity to help your body, and your heart, heal. Walking is one of the best ways to get the physical activity you need for your recovery.

Your walking should start the day after you get home from the hospital, and you’ll need to stick to a walking plan as you continue to get better.

To set your walking plan, there are a few tips that you should follow:

  • Have a walking partner
  • Walk five to 10 minutes twice a day and increase length and speed as you recover
  • Pick a flat path or place with enough rest stops
  • You also don’t have to walk outdoors

If you’re having trouble sticking to your walking plan or you have any questions about your physical activity, don’t hesitate to talk to your care team. They can help find the amount of physical activity that is right for you.
