When to Call 911

Call 911 if you feel like something’s seriously wrong, such as:

  • Severe chest pain that doesn’t go away when you take your medication
  • A fast, irregular heartbeat faster than 120 beats per minute
  • Shortness of breath that gets worse and is not helped by resting
  • Fainting
  • Bright red blood in your stool or urine
  • Bright red blood when you cough
  • Sudden numbness or weakness in your arms or legs
  • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes, even if it’s just for a little bit
  • If any of these things happen to you, call 911 as soon as possible

It’s good to remember that if you’re unsure about anything, it’s always better to call your doctor or 911 than to do nothing at all.
