Home Health Care & Recap

Receiving chemotherapy can be a stressful time for you and your loved ones, and caring for yourself at home is very important for your physical and mental well-being. There will be times when you may feel extreme emotions; however, you’re not alone. Your healthcare team is available to support and guide you through this challenging time. Contact your care team immediately if you experience any of the following:

  • A temperature of 104 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
  • Feeling dizzy or lightheaded
  • Feels hard to breathe
  • Feel tired all the time
  • Unusual bruising
  • Nausea or vomiting for long periods of time
  • Diarrhea or constipation lasting more than 48 hours
  • Sores on gums or tongue, white patches in your mouth, or difficulty swallowing
  • Redness, tenderness, or swelling around the area where the IV was placed
  • Chills, persistent cough, a headache that won’t go away with medication, or sinus pain

Your personal hygiene is also very important during treatment and can help reduce your chances of getting sick. Here are some helpful tips to keep you healthy:

  • Wash your hands often
  • Take a shower everyday
  • Use an electric shaver instead of a shaver
  • Use a toothbrush with soft bristles
  • Avoid people who are sick
  • Be careful around pets
  • Use lotion and sunscreen
  • Try to avoid direct sunlight

We know this is a lot of information, but it’s important that you and your family understand the ways to keep you healthy during your treatment. If you have any questions, be sure to ask your care team.
