What is Chemotherapy?

Chemotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that uses a drug, or a combination of drugs, that fight cancer by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells. For some patients, the treatment can be a cure. For others, it helps slow down cancer cell growth. Chemotherapy is also used to help ease some of the symptoms. There are different ways of receiving chemotherapy. For example, it can be given as a pill or injected directly into your bloodstream through an IV. Regardless of the method, your care team will work with you to plan the best way to receive your chemotherapy.
