Morning of Surgery

On the morning of your surgery, you should continue with last night’s preparations: do not eat or drink anything in the morning, and if your doctor has told you to take any specific medications, you should take them with a small sip of water, just enough to get it down.

Wash or clean your body in the manner your surgical team has instructed. This may be wiping down with antibacterial wipes or showering with the antibacterial soap you’re given.

Be sure to arrive at the hospital two to three hours before surgery or at the time discussed with your doctor, and bring a list of your medications with you. This list should include the name of your medications, the doses you take, and the number of times a day you take them. You may be asked when you last took each one. It’s also helpful to include a list of any allergies you have to medications, food, or the environment.
