Packing for the Hospital

We all know how crucial it is to pack the right items for any trip. The trip to the hospital is no different. Packing the following items will ensure that you have everything for your surgery and recovery to go smoothly:

  • A valid government issued photo identification card such as a driver’s license, military ID, or passport
  • Insurance card and prescription card
  • Eyeglasses, hearing aids, and dentures
  • Walker or crutches,if you currently used. unless told otherwise by your doctor’s office
  • Loose-fitting, comfortable clothes, such as shorts, sweatpants, and athletic gear
  • Shoes that have good tread, won’t slip, and provide protection for your toes and heels
  • A method of payment for co-pays and deductibles
  • Copies of advanced directives or living will
  • CPAP machine, if you use one at night

It’s important that you leave your valuables such as jewelry at home. When you arrive, you’ll also receive hospital socks with grip that provide you with both comfort and traction. Keeping these things in mind and bringing in the right belongings will help prepare you for your surgery and recovery.
