Prehab

Pre-rehabilitation, or prehab, is a focused outpatient physical therapy appointment that prepares you for surgery and facilitates recovery afterward. This appointment helps you return to your normal activities as quickly and safely as possible. Prehab usually involves one session that also gives you the opportunity to meet your therapists and ask more questions prior to surgery.

Prehab may be done in the outpatient therapy office, at the hospital where you are having surgery, or at the location where you chose to do your outpatient rehabilitation after surgery. In prehab, you will learn what to expect during the inpatient rehabilitation process, as well as the importance of rehabilitation once you return home. What’s more, prehab helps determine any special needs you may have during your recovery.

Contact your patient care coordinator or your orthopedic team for more information or to schedule an appointment.
