Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Recovery Room

When you wake up after your procedure, you will be in the post anesthesia care unit (PACU), which is also known as the recovery room. You’ll be here for a short period of time before you go to the orthopedic unit. While you’re in the recovery room, your heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels will be monitored to make sure you’re doing well after your surgery. You’ll have a bandage over the joint that’s been replaced, and you may have a drain that helps remove excess fluid from the wound. Visitor policies vary between hospitals, so ask your care team if your family will be able to visit you in the PACU.
